World Athletics is pleased to announce that the nomination process for the World Athletics Athletes’ Commission is now open. Athletes interested in becoming candidates for the six available seats are invited to submit their nominations.
The elections to the Athletes’ Commission will be held between 8-20 September 2025 during the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25. Voting is scheduled to take place on site at the championships – at the team accreditation centre – and online, where all athletes accredited to compete will be eligible to vote.
Potential candidates must first apply to the Vetting Panel before 7 April 2025 and be declared eligible in order to be nominated by a valid decision of their Member Federation’s Board. Before applying for vetting and filling in the nomination form, Member Federations and their prospective candidates should have a good understanding of the vetting and candidacy rules, and the election process.
The deadline for nomination submission is 7 June 2025.
The candidacy rules set out the procedures and required conduct of candidates seeking election to the Athletes’ Commission and in accordance with these rules, the Election Oversight Panel has prepared the following material in support of the elections:
• Candidate pack containing all relevant information concerning the elections; and
• Candidate nomination form to be completed by the candidates and Member Federations.
These can be downloaded from the documents library.
The list of candidates will be made available on 25 August 2025, which is also the commencement date of the campaign period.
The Athletes’ Commission is part of World Athletics’ decision-making process. It advises the World Athletics Council on the athletes’ perspective(s) and serves as a link between the athletes and World Athletics.
