The Men’s Elite Race at the Boxer Super Run in Tshwane is set to deliver high-energy action this coming Sunday, 10 November 2024, as top runners Kabelo Mulaudzi, Elroy Gelant, and Luan Munnik prepare to challenge Durban champion Precious Mashele for the top spot on the podium.

After finishing just one second behind his Boxer Athletics Club (AC) teammate Precious Mashele at the Boxer Super Run in Durban this October—clocking an impressive 13:40 to Mashele’s 13:39, who retained the title of fastest South African over 5km on home soil—Kabelo Mulaudzi is more motivated than ever. He’s eager to secure another podium finish and potentially claim victory at the inaugural Boxer Super Run in Tshwane.

“The Boxer Super Run in Durban was exceptionally well-organized; the atmosphere, team spirit, and the course were fantastic,” says Mulaudzi. “I loved the route and even managed a personal best. As a Boxer athlete, it’s incredibly meaningful to participate in a world-class 5km race sponsored by Boxer. We don’t often have races of this calibre in South Africa, so I’m grateful to Boxer for creating this opportunity.”

Following his impressive showing in Durban, Mulaudzi is eager to face the strong competition expected in Tshwane.

“I’ve never trained at TUKS, but it’s exciting that the race will take place there as it gives athletes who missed Durban a chance to compete against the nation’s best,” adds Mulaudzi. “The R147K prize purse is a fantastic incentive, motivating athletes to come ready to perform. This being my last race of the year, my main goal is to finish on the podium. I’m not focused on a specific time—I just want to run a strong race.”

South African stalwart Elroy Gelant has also thrown his hat in the ring, eager to set a new personal best and potentially take the win in Tshwane.

“The Boxer Super Run is an important initiative, especially for developing young talent and welcoming new runners to road running,” says Gelant. “As a Boxer Elite Runner, it’s great to have a world-class 5km event where we can test our speed, ultimately helping us run faster at longer distances. I’m excited for the TUKS venue as it’s away from city traffic and ideal for fast times. My goal is to better my PB of 13:49 from Durban. Winning, with a sub-13:40 time at altitude, would be a fantastic outcome.”

Luan Munnik, fresh from his victory at the 12th edition of the Thembisa Mile with an impressive 4:03 finish, will also be a contender to watch. Munnik placed 4th at the Boxer Super Run in Durban, right behind Mashele, Mulaudzi, and Chris Mhlanga, with a solid time of 13:44.

“It was my Boxer Super Run debut in Durban, and I was immediately impressed by the race’s seamless organization,” says Munnik. “The setup was perfect for social runners and elites alike, providing us with a chance to deliver our best. The Boxer Super Run is a game-changer for South African road running. This world-class race and its incentives attract elite track and road athletes to compete at their highest level. With more races like this, South Africans can aim for podium finishes at global road championships.”

Munnik believes the TUKS course has the potential to rival Durban’s. “Altitude or not… if the race is competitive and the pace is pushed, we could see times just as fast, if not faster, than Durban. My plan is to win. Durban showed me what I’m capable of in a 5K on the road, and now I’m ready for the full course.”

Mulaudzi, Gelant, and Munnik will face tough competition from two-time Boxer Super Run Durban champion Precious Mashele, along with a strong contingent of additional Boxer AC elites, including Chris Mhlanga, Gladwin Mzazi, and Puseletso Mofokeng.

“I’m excited for the TUKS venue, which I know well from my training days with the Sponge Group,” says Mashele. “Despite the altitude, the course should be flat enough for fast times. My goal is to close out my season strong at my club’s race. I will be aiming for a podium finish—and hopefully, a win.”

"We’re incredibly excited to see Kabelo Mulaudzi, Elroy Gelant, and Luan Munnik prepare for the Boxer Super Run in Tshwane, joined by a strong contingent of Boxer AC athletes, including our Durban champion, Precious Mashele,” says Lee-Ann Pillay, Head of Marketing at Boxer Superstores. “The competition promises to be intense, setting the stage for an electrifying day of elite racing. We wish all the athletes the best of luck and look forward to an unforgettable race in Tshwane!"
