The world's toughest course started in the early morning of today, Sunday the 9th of June 2024 at 5:30 from Durban to Pietermaritzburg .
Lately, Gerda Steyn is one of the hardest opponent to beat on the South African road in ultra-marathons in the last half-decade.
Today, the 9th of June 2024 was her second consecutive Comrades to win. The previous two Oceans ultra-marathon victory two months ago was her fifth in succession, she also won them in record time.
Speaking at a Media Briefing held at Scottsville Racecourse this afternoon, Steyn said that she is happy to win the 97th edition of Comrades Marathon 2024.
"Some coaches and running mates would see going out to smash records with wins in two ultra-marathons in the months before competing in the Olympic Marathon with the Comrades just over a month before the race in Paris on August 11 as going out too hard."
"I sees my condition I am at is from the Two Oceans and Comrades as my strength, and will use it effectively to perform much better in the upcoming Paris Olympics " She said.
