Former Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius has finally been granted parole after several attempts.
Pistorius, now 37, was sentenced by a Pretoria High Court in 2016 to serve 13 years in prison for the murder of his late girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
His first parole bid was struck off the roll in March 2024 simply because he had not completed the minimum detention period. That was later rectified and ruled a mistake by South Africa's Constitutional Court, that led to today's ruling that he must be released on parole.
The parole board has since set his release for 5 January 2024.
