The 2023 Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series will culminate with the Absa RUN YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K on Sunday 24 September 2023, and promises to be an extraordinary final with a star-studded field of elite athletes ready to light up the streets of Jozi.

Leading the charge in the men's race will be the in-form Boxer athlete, Kabelo Mulaudzi, who has notched up an impressive hattrick of 10km victories since July. His remarkable streak began at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K, where he slashed over 30 seconds from his personal best, clocking an impressive 27:56 and cementing his place as the fourth-fastest South African ever in the 10km distance. Along the way, he also secured the SA 10km Cross Country Title, showcasing his dominance in the field. Now, Mulaudzi is determined to cap off the season with a win at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K, making it four wins in four starts. With his exceptional form, he'll undoubtedly be a formidable contender on race day.

“I am confident. I am in great shape, the best shape of my life and I know I can win on Sunday,” said Mulaudzi.

The victory, however, won’t come easy for the 25-year-old. He will need to work for it as an array of hungry and talented athletes will be looking to upset the confident SA Champion. His namesake, Collen Mulaudzi feels he has unfinished business in the 10km this season. Mulaudzi (Collen) is a fighter and will push any athlete to their limit if they hope to win. Then there is Lesotho National 10km record holder, Namakoe Nkhasi, a 27:52 man and the fastest in the field. Former South African 10km Champion, Andries Sesedi has also thrown his hat into the ring and will keep the pace honest up front.

Ethiopia's Debash Desta will be gunning for her second consecutive victory in the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series, following her triumphant debut in Tshwane in August. Despite the challenges of altitude and a hilly course, the young athlete managed to match her personal best time of 32:14, making her a formidable contender this coming Sunday. Meanwhile, South Africa's Irvette van Zyl is making a strong comeback after a lengthy injury hiatus. Known for her resilience and a penchant for tougher courses, Van Zyl sees herself as a strong contender, poised to challenge the odds.

The ever-popular Gerda Steyn will also be on the starting line. As the record holder for both the Two Oceans and Comrades races, she's eager to take on some fast races. Her aim is to conclude her South African season with a fast and hard effort, before embarking on her European journey for her final preparations for a marathon later in the year.

“We are excited to see the elite runners take centre stage on Sunday to compete in the final Absa RUN YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K race. Their exceptional performances will set a new standard of excellence and demonstrate the countless hours of training and preparation that they’ve invested,” said Absa’s Group Chief Marketing and Corporate Affairs Officer, Sydney Mbhele.

“We are also proud of our Team Absa Walk Run community on Strava, along with everyone who has participated in the race in Gqeberha, Cape Town, Durban and Tshwane, as well as the running billboard activations for being an active force for good. To date, we have collectively raised over R1.1 million for community upliftment and we can’t wait to see how much the Joburg race will contribute to the fund.”

“It's a privilege to be the host city of the prestigious Absa RUN YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K,” says Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Kabelo Gwamanda. “We look forward to extending a warm welcome to all participants and visitors joining us for this exciting occasion. Johannesburg is known for its dynamic atmosphere, and we are proud to be part of an event that brings people together to celebrate both our city's splendor and the joy of running. We can't wait to see the streets of Jozi come alive with runners, walkers, and supporters. We look forward to making this a memorable experience for all."
