On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, Lindelani Mjwara officially signed with the Hollywood Athletics Club, as the current running season ends and preparations for the 2025 season are starting. Mjwara joins Hollywood Athletics Club from Ocras Running Academy, which is managed by Coach Prodigal Khumalo, who himself competes under the Hollywood Athletics Club banner. Khumalo has played a crucial role in identifying talented runners such as Nkosikhona Mhlakwana, Makhosi Mhlongo, and Makwande Mngcwengi, among others.
Mjwara's move comes after an impressive 2024 season, highlighted by his debut at the Comrades Marathon Uprun to Pietermaritzburg, where he crossed the finish line at the Hollywoodbets Scottsville Racecourse in a remarkable time of 06:03:50. This outstanding debut caught the attention of numerous clubs. Reflecting on his decision to join the Hollywood Athletics Club, Mjwara shared, "When my coach suggested the idea of joining the Hollywood Athletics Club, I was very excited. They are a big club that truly takes care of their runners, as I’ve seen with my fellow training partners, and I want to be a part of that."
Mjwara is no stranger to fast running. He made an impressive debut at the Durban International Marathon, finishing in 02:25:07 and placing 37th overall in a highly competitive field that included top athletes like Elroy Gelant, Matthews Leeto, and Stephen Mokoka. Now affectionately known as the "Purple Jaguar" after joining the Purple Team, Mjwara went on to make his club debut at the Icons Journey, a tough 103km Ultra Marathon, where he placed 6th overall with a time of 07:54:23.
Looking ahead, Mjwara is shifting his focus to the Kaapsehoop Marathon, his final race of the year. He hopes to continue his strong performances and carry this momentum into the new season with his new club.
"We are honoured to welcome this young man to the club. He has shown himself to be a dedicated and talented runner, and PK has done an amazing job with him. We can't wait to see what he achieves in the upcoming race and the new season," said
Hollywood Athletics Club President Morgan Shandu, confirming the signing of Lindelani Mjwara.
