With an impressive total prize purse of R147,200.00, it's hardly surprising that the Boxer Super Run that will celebrate its Durban debut on Sunday 15 October 2023, has attracted a formidable lineup of athletes, including renowned Boxer Female Elites like Glenrose Xaba, Tanith Maxwell, Lebo Phalula, Lebogang Phalula, and Li-Mari Dekker.

"I appreciate the 5km distance for its role in honing my speed," expresses Glenrose "Supercharged" Xaba. "The Boxer Super Run is a brilliant concept that will contribute to the development of our future South African athletes, pushing them to achieve faster times. My goal is to set a new South African record for the 5km; that's where my focus lies. With the 5km being recognized as a World Athletics Championship event, I'm motivated to qualify for this in the future. The Boxer Super Run just might help me reach my goal.” Xaba currently boasts a 5km PB of 15.25.

"The 5km is great because it's short yet incredibly fast," remarks Olympian Tanith Maxwell. "The Boxer Super Run is a fantastic concept that not only nurtures our youth but also provides a platform for Elite athletes to showcase their speed. Most importantly, it unites runners from diverse backgrounds – families, club athletes, and students alike." Maxwell boasts a 5km personal best of 16:27.

“I like the 5km because it’s not as fast as the 800m and not as far as the 10km,” laughs Li-Mari Dekker. “The Boxer Super Run will be the perfect opportunity to identify young distance athletes. My goal is to enjoy the event and run a new PB.” Dekker’s 5km PB is 17.41.

Lebo Phalula boasts a 5km personal best of 15:48. "I like the 5km distance because it is fast and short," Phalula openly shares. "I appreciate Boxer's decision to organize a shorter race; it encourages up-and-coming athletes to initially concentrate on shorter distances before venturing into longer ones. I would like to thank Boxer for this incredible opportunity. On race day, my aim is to chase a personal best and, if luck is on my side, clinch a spot on the podium."

According to Lebogang Phalula, she enjoys the 5km because she can really give it her all and finish up quickly. "The Boxer Super Run is going to be my last race of the year, so I'm pretty excited about it. I'm hoping to beat my personal best, which is 16:11."
