Nine-time Comrades Marathon winner, Bruce Fordyce will give a motivational talk as one of the Comrades Living Legends at tomorrow’s (Tuesday, 19 March 2024 at 19h00) Comrades Novice Seminar in Johannesburg.
The novice-focused session will be hosted by Rand Athletics Club in Randburg and forms part of four countrywide seminars geared towards empowering first time participants in #Comrades2024.
With 82 days to go to the 97th edition of The Ultimate Human Race, the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) is putting Runners First, especially those who are attempting their very first Comrades.
Tomorrow’s session kicks off at the Old Parktonian Sports Club, 1 Garden Road, Bordeaux, Randburg and includes need-to-know information and advice from the Comrades Coach, Lindsey Parry.
Runners will get all relevant details, training tips and advice, including injury prevention, rest & recovery, tapering, running shoe information and race day strategies.
The session will also include advice from a dietitian regarding runners’ nutrition, meal ideas for optimum nourishment before, during and after training; as well as race day sustenance.
Registered Dietitian, Nicki de Villiers works with athletes and guides them to optimum nutrition to train well and achieve their running goals. Nicki has been working in the field of dietetics for more than 20 years and has been concentrating on sports nutrition for the last 18 years.
The Comrades Novice Seminars will also include short motivational talks by local running legends as part of the Comrades’ Local Legends campaign for 2024. The line-up includes:

Cape Town: Vladimir Kotov – 2000, 2002 and 2004 Comrades Marathon winner
Durban: Blanche Moila – 18 Comrades Marathon finishes
