CMA Special General Meeting Outcomes

A Special General Meeting was held on Thursday, 15 August 2024, during which the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) Board met with the membership of the Association, amid a call for certain issues to be addressed.

 

Outcomes of the meeting included the following:

 

  • The resignation of CMA Board Member, Zinhle Sokhela.

  • The passing of a resolution that Ms Sokhela be disqualified from ever serving as a CMA Board member.

  • The retention of Isaac Ngwenya as Board member of the CMA as the allegations of racist utterances were not proved.

  • The report by the Chair that members of the Board sign a Code of Ethics declaration every year and they are bound by the provisions of the Board Charter.

  • The passing of a resolution requiring all future nominees to the Board to make a pledge, prior to their election, not to make themselves guilty of any form of discrimination.

  • The appointment of an independent committee, headed by a retired judge, to investigate the Community Marshals Portfolio.

  • The appointment of an independent panel to manage the recruitment process of the Race & Operations Manager position.

  • Amendments to the CMA Constitution to allow online attendance and voting.

 

At the conclusion of the SGM, the Chairperson of the CMA, Mqondisi Ngcobo, thanked members of the CMA for acting with the utmost decorum and for showing camaraderie and passion throughout. This SGM displayed the true spirit of The Ultimate Human Race.
