Central Gauteng Athletics successfully hosed the 2024 (U16/U18/U20/U23) Track and Field Provincial Championships on the 8-9 March 2024 at Germiston Stadium.

Following remarkable 4 leagues hosted by the Province, athletes displayed exceptional performance this past weekend. The championships were very exciting as athletes were in good shape to compete and seek qualification for the national championships which are scheduled to take place on 21-23 March 2024 in Pretoria.

One of the rising star, Tyran Brooks who ran an outstanding time 08:56.71 in the 3000m event, in this season the above-mentioned athlete dominated the same event throughout the 2024 Track and Field Season. We are therefore hoping to see him on the National Podium in CGA colors at the 2024 ASA U16, U18, U20 Championships. In second position was Noah Junior of WWAC taking home a silver medal in the time 09:26.62 and settling for a bronze position was Siyanda Malone of Tembisa 09:30.20.

The highlight of the day was the battle between the following sprinters, Mukona Mnavhela of Germiston Callies, Andreas Chizinga of De Anker and Mandla Mavungu of Brakpan in the exciting Men U18 200m clocking 21.12, 22.17 and 22.22 respectively. We witnessed the athletes give the final 200m race their best performances to all clock ASA qualifying times.

In the field event, we saw Oluchi Ndubueze of IHT dominate the event with a jump of 5.63 to appear on the podium with a gold medal with an ASA qualifier distance. The athlete has ever since dominated this event since she was a sub youth, we are therefore looking forward to seeing how this athlete will perform at the ASA Championships.

The Provincial Senior Championships will take place on the 16 March 2024 at UJ Auckland Park Athletics Stadium. The CGA Track and Field Chairperson Maggie Dicks indicated that it is the duty of the province to ensure our athletes are well prepared for National Championships and other major international championships such as the upcoming Olympic Games later this year.
