With 82 days to race day, aspirant #Comrades2025 participants now have another chance to secure their spot on the start line of The Ultimate Human Race on Sunday, 8 June 2025, via the Comrades Substitution Process.
The substitution window period will run from 17 March 2025 to 15 April 2025.
How it works: Entrants who have successfully entered the 2025 Comrades Marathon will have the opportunity to withdraw from the race during the window period of 17 - 31 March 2025.
Entry slots that have been made available by withdrawing entrants will then be made available on a first come first serve basis to individuals wanting to enter the event from 1 April - 15 April 2025 via the Comrades website. Withdrawing entrants who have been successfully substituted by another participant will receive an 85% refund of their entry fee.
Entry fees will remain the same as normal.
No late substitutions will be accepted. No money or vouchers may be exchanged between athletes.
Entrants who successfully substitute out of the race during the substitution period will NOT be allowed to reinstate their original entries.
All withdrawals & entries during substitutions will be done via the Comrades website www.comrades.com
CMA General Manager, Alain Dalais says, “Athletes who were unable to enter the race during the official entry period now have another opportunity to be part of the world’s greatest footrace, thanks to the Substitution Process. This process provides a second chance for runners to secure their spot on the starting line, ensuring that as many participants as possible can experience the iconic Comrades Marathon.”
The 98th Comrades Marathon will be run on Sunday, 8 June 2025. This will be the 49th Down Run, starting at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall and finishing 12 hours later at Durban’s People’s Park, covering an approximate 89km distance.
